The GLC Earth Oven

On June 8, 2012, corporate volunteers from Deloitte LLP came out to Edgewood to build an Adobe oven under the guidance of the Ecology Center of San Francisco (ECO SF). Along with Edgewood community school kids, staff, and Edgewood staff artists, volunteers mixed mud, water, straw and other sustainable resources to build the newest and most colorful addition to Edgewood's Sally Gotcher Garden Learning Center (GLC). A special thanks to Edgewood's corporate partner Deloitte for funding the adobe oven building project and for ECO SF for their vision, knowledge, and creatively.
Since completion, Deloitte volunteers and ECO SF staff have since come back to make pizzas and flat breads with the community school kids. Using freshly harvested vegetables and herbs from the GLC beds, kids, staff, and volunteers baked and ate together, sharing in the nourishing ritual of cooking and sharing food in the Carol Waldorf Lohr Outdoor Kitchen. We are thrilled to see this project strengthen our Edgewood services and community even more.
