Emerald Across the Bay 12K

Thank You, Runners, Sponsors, and Volunteers!

On Sunday, March 17, 2013, Edgewood marked its 30th year as sole beneficiary of the Emerald Across the Bay 12K race. We had an amazing day with perfect weather and thousands of happy faces crossing the finish line! Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a successful day for our kids.

Named by Runner’s World magazine as 'the Best Bridge Run in America,’ top ranked U.S. distance runners to health and fitness enthusiasts are attracted to the gorgeous course and unique challenge of the Emerald 12K.  Each year, Edgewood children and youth in both San Francisco and San Mateo train to run the last mile of the race through Recreation, Physical Education, and Drop-In Center programs.  For some of our kids, this becomes a life-changing experience and sets them on a course of higher self-esteem and healthy living.  Edgewood has a long tradition of helping our clients turn tragedy into triumph. Thank you for supporting our kids and families in solidarity towards healthy living and goal setting.

History of the 12K: Celebrating 30 years with Edgewood
The Emerald Across the Bay 12K is considered by Dave Rhody, promoter and producer of 400 local events spanning nearly 30 years, as his flagship race. Since 1984, there have been various changes, including its name, course and sponsors, but Edgewood has remained its only event beneficiary and continues to be an ideal charitable partner for RhodyCo Productions. Recreational running and fitness is a key element in the Edgewood approach of treating and helping kids, and has been for years. In fact, thirty years ago, Dave noticed that many of the runners' entry forms had the address of 1801 Vicente Street, which led him to the San Francisco Residential campus of Edgewood.  Having been a social worker himself, Dave was especially moved when he learned that Edgewood children were running in his race because of the thereaputic benefits.  It was then that Dave decided that Edgewood was the perfect beneficiary, for which we remain incredibly grateful.  Thank you, Rhody Co., for your long-standing support of Edgewood and our terrific partnership over these years!
