OLYMPIC GYMNAST GOES FOR GOLD THANKS TO KINSHIP CAREGIVERS
We are so proud of all of the athletes competing in the Olympic Games in Rio. Simone Biles, a gymnast on the U.S. women's gymnastics team, is one young lady who has triumphed over adversity thanks to the love and support of her grandparents who took her in when she was just 3 years old.
As reported in the New York Post, Simone's mother battled drug and alcohol abuse and was not able to take care of her young children. Thanks to her grandparents who became kinship caregivers, Simone has gone on to wonderful achievements.
At Edgewood, we understand the importance of kinship caregivers - as a matter of fact, we started the program more than 20 years ago that today, has become the model for other programs across the country.

REDWOOD CITY DROP-IN CENTER DEBUTS
Many young adults that age out of the foster care find it difficult to transition to a life outside of the system.
In 2007 Edgewood piloted a Drop-in Center - a unique program in San Mateo County dedicated to helping this group of transition age youth get the services they need - whether it be workshops on how to apply for a job, mental health resources, or a place to hang out and chat with others.
To meet the growing demand for these services Edgewood will open a second Drop-in Center in Redwood City this month to serve south valley young adults.
