LYRA HEALTH GIVES BACK

new Lyra health CID

Lyra Health selected Edgewood as the site of its all-staff volunteer engagement activity. They participated in a variety of activities with youth enrolled in Edgewood’s After School Program including cooking, playing baseball, and beautifying the campus. In addition, Lyra Health donated new basketballs, softballs and tennis balls for use in recreational activities.

David Ebersman, Lyra Health Co-Founder and CEO, had the following to say, “The kids and the staff at Edgewood inspired us to continue working hard to make progress against our mission, and develop new tools to help people suffering from mental health issues."

Edgewood is grateful to count Lyra Health as a partner in supporting youth and families.

HELPING KIDS IN CRISIS

boy crisis

Before Edgewood, many other interventions have been tried - therapy, social service programs, and multiple foster care placements - but haven't provided youths the necessary support to build the skills and resilience they need to live positive, independent lives. Such is the case for Andrew* - a teen in crisis with anxieties and problems interacting with others, including his parents.

On his first day at Edgewood, Andrew sat silently on a couch in the lobby for an hour. A team of counselors sat with him, mostly not speaking, just letting him adjust to his new surroundings.

During the next five hours, Andrew eventually opened up to counselors who listened intently to what he had to say - an important key in the recovery process and one of the reasons why Edgewood truly understands the kids others don't.

PALO ALTO SUICIDE PREVENTION
teen girl ethnic
A recent string of teen suicides in Palo Alto has prompted officials there to examine if the current prevention methods in place are enough and if there are other external contributing factors, such as extensive media coverage, that may be to blame.
Depression and stress are some of the biggest factors causing some teens to have mental health issues such as suicidal thoughts and engaging in self-harming activities.
If you know of a teen in crisis, please call (800) 273-TALK.
