While support and acceptance of gay youth continue to grow in many areas of the U.S., there are still a disproportionate number of teens who feel isolated, alone, and insecure about themselves and their sexual identity.

The number of LGBT students in San Francisco middle and high schools who have attempted suicide could grow unless intervention and early acceptance programs are increased, advocates say. Roughly one-third of middle school students who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual, have attempted suicide, according to a 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Survey — the most recent data available. Among high school students, the rate is roughly 17 percent.

One Bay Area teen is lucky to be alive today thanks to the quick thinking of his parents, a family counselor, and Edgewood. Read his story and learn how you can help a teen in need.

Edgewood Center for Children and Families has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Behavioral Health Care Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective care.

“Joint Commission accreditation provides behavioral health care organizations with the processes needed to improve in a variety of areas related to the care of individuals and their families,” said Tracy Griffin Collander, LCSW, executive director, Behavioral Health Care Accreditation program, The Joint Commission. “We commend Edgewood for its efforts to elevate the standard of care it provides and to instill confidence in the community it serves.”

Our services are in demand now more than ever.

The Center for Health Reporting states mental health hospitalizations of Californians under 21 - the exact population we serve at Edgewood - rose 38 percent between 2007 and 2012.

Edgewood sees the children represented by these heart-wrenching statistics every day. This year alone, staff has already helped nearly 5,000 youth through Edgewood's residential, prevention and early intervention, day and after-school treatment, community-based programs, as well as it's newly launched Crisis Stabilization Unit

You can make a lasting impact for youth by making a planned gift today and possibly enhancing your financial future.

Planned gifts create opportunities for both donors and Edgewood. Assessing what gift is right for you is just as important as making the gift.

We are here to help you identify the right plan to ensure your goals are accomplished for yourself, your family, and your charitable interests.

Earlier this month, Edgewood's campus underwent a makeover thanks to the hard work of Deloitte volunteers during the company's annual Impact Day.

Within a span of eight hours on campus, the team repaired playgrounds and a rock wall, built benches and bike racks, and designed a very clever drainage system to prevent flooding in one of the cottages. It was truly an inspiring day - thank you Deloitte!

All kids attending San Mateo County schools may soon have access to mental health services. A report identifies that better collaboration between public entities is needed  in order to serve nearly 94,000 students enrolled in public schools throughout the county.

National studies show that approximately 20 percent of students will experience a substantial mental health issue before graduating high school.
