For most of us, controlling our emotions can be challenging, but is usually instinctive. We have learned that even if we feel like yelling at someone before our morning cup of coffee, we shouldn’t do it. And we can stop ourselves from acting on these impulses.

But what if you were unable to control these waves of emotions and you couldn’t help but express your strong emotions in a negative, aggressive way? Many children—because of trauma, abuse, or other debilitating challenges—are at the mercy of their own urges to act out. This can get children suspended or expelled from school or even removed from their homes. Where can they turn in such dire situations?

Read why Edgewood Center for Children and Families' Community School is an alternative learning environment for high-need youth.

The efficacy of the group home model has been a topic of discussion for a number of years among those in the health care industry.

With approximately 3,000 kids in foster care in California, and a shortage of trained professionals to care for kids with significant emotional problems and trauma, what options are available?

Edgewood's CEO, Matt Madaus, was recently interviewed on KQED's Forum program about the growing role Edgewood's residential treatment program has in the continuum of care.

We are grateful to the Golden State Warriors for its outstanding support of Edgewood youth and for selecting Edgewood as one of this year's Hoops-4-Kids charities.

Each Warriors 3-point basket this regular season generated $500 for 8 local organizations that work to improve opportunities and outcomes for kids.

The season ended with a whopping 883, 3-pointers made, equating to more than $440,000 raised for all of the charities combined! Go Warriors - Go Edgewood!
